Transporting vehicles by yacht or boat requires orderly planning and hiring a service company that provides a conditioned space for your vehicle to be transported safely.

For solid and committed companies, the vehicle becomes an important passenger within the yacht or boat. In addition, this type of company is aware of the need for customers to have their own vehicle to travel the world by sea, with total freedom and comfort.

If you want to visit the Greek islands, from the great Santorini, Crete, and Rhodes, to the little-known paradises like Astypalea and Tinos, this post is for you. Below is everything you need to know about transporting vehicles by yacht or boat if you plan to travel this season on a yacht or boat with your vehicle.

Bring everything you need

Have all the necessary vehicle documentation on hand, like driving license, and ownership papers. In addition, the green insurance card will probably be needed at some point during the transfer.

The insurance document certifies that you have mandatory civil liability coverage and, although it is not necessary to travel through European Union countries, it is required to travel outside the Union.

Travel with freedom and security

Traveling by sea provides freedom of movement by having your vehicle available at the travel destination. You will have everything you need to feel comfortable during your trip, as you can carry the things you prefer while traveling.

The chances of an accident are almost non-existent. You will need to fill out a form for the shipping company, make sure to place personal data and vehicle characteristics clearly, and read the terms and conditions, as well as the company’s transport policies.

Follow the rules

Describe your vehicle accurately to avoid unexpected surcharges, as there are some permitted characteristics for the vehicle. Comply with safety regulations before and during boarding the yacht or boat to ensure your entry is calm and without incidents, risks, or conflicts.

Once you board the boat, the shipping company is responsible for the care of your vehicle, but it will remain under the guardianship of the owner.

It is best to verify that everything is kept in order until your vehicle is located in the assigned space inside the yacht or boat, so that no one places an object or substance inside the vehicle that is not yours.

If you travel to another country

When traveling to another country, you should consider the following:

When traveling, carry your driving license with you. Make sure that this document is valid and approved in the destination country.

Countries of the European Union do not have so many requirements regarding this subject. But, there are countries in which you do need an approved driver’s license or a temporary permit.

Carry only merchandise permitted in your vehicle in the destination country. For example, in Muslim countries, alcohol bottles are not allowed. Avoid fines or sanctions to enjoy the trip fully.

Research everything you can about traffic laws and regulations of the destination.

Be punctual and ask questions

Trips by sea require arriving at the boarding site in advance to verify documents and fill out forms. So, it is recommended that you arrive 30 minutes before departure. However, if the journey is long, it is recommended that you arrive an hour and a half earlier.

Ask everything you want; don’t be afraid to ask about any topic, or something you didn’t understand about the contract. Clarify all your doubts!

If you notice any damage to the vehicle, do not leave the yacht or boat without first making a claim.  Show all the documentation that proves that said damage occurred during the trip.
